Code of conduct

Our commitment

Effective Altruism Belgium is committed to providing a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment for everyone, regardless of race, ethnic or social origin, gender, language, religion or belief, political opinion, disability, age, or sexual orientation.

This code of conduct applies to all EA Belgium spaces, including our events, online communities, email lists, and any other forums created or managed by EA Belgium.

Expected behaviour

We expect all community members to:

Be respectful and considerate — treat others with empathy and kindness, even when disagreeing
Engage constructively — welcome diverse perspectives and challenge ideas rather than people
Be inclusive — make space for others to participate and contribute
Assume good faith — interpret others’ actions charitably before drawing conclusions
Take responsibility — acknowledge mistakes, apologise where appropriate, and learn from the experience

Unacceptable behaviour

The following behaviours are not tolerated in our community:

Insults, personal attacks, or demeaning comments
Any form of discrimination or exclusion based on personal characteristics
Harassment of any kind, including bullying, intimidation, or unwelcome sexual attention
Deliberate misrepresentation of others’ views
Sharing others’ private information without their consent

Reporting

If you experience or witness behaviour that violates this code of conduct, you have several options:

Report to EA Belgium organisers by emailing info@eabelgium.org
Report anonymously to CEA’s Community Health team via their reporting form — anonymous reports are accepted

All reports will be handled with discretion and taken seriously.

Enforcement

EA Belgium organisers are responsible for clarifying and enforcing this code of conduct. In response to a report or observed violation, organisers may take any action they deem appropriate, including a warning, temporary suspension, or permanent removal from community spaces.
